Bayernnetz für Radler

125 cycle routes with a length of around 9,000 km

The ‘Bayernnetz für Radler’ (BfR) is a cycling network in Bavaria, which consists of around 125 cycle routes with a total length of around 9,000 km and is signposted with the BfR logo alongside the respective route logo.

The low-traffic to traffic-free routing via independent cycle paths, agricultural roads or on roads with little traffic also makes it suitable for use with children. The BfR is primarily aimed at recreational cyclists with touring and trekking bikes.

It is not designed for sports cyclists with racing bikes or mountain bikes. There is no continuous asphalt alignment. The BfR is shown on the bicycle route planner map with a blue signature, and on the ‘Bayernnetz für Radler’ map the lines are also thicker than those of the other thematic routes.

Thematic routes

Regional connections

Regional routes that follow a special theme (e.g. river course, historical or geographical theme) and are signposted as such with their own name and sometimes logo. Some of them are designed as circular routes.

A special form is a panoramic route that offers numerous views (panoramas) of scenic beauty.

The thematic routes are shown on the map of the bicycle route planner with a blue signature.

Local cycling connections

The connection between towns, cities and municipalities

In addition to the leisure routes, the bicycle route planner contains cycle connections between towns and within cities and municipalities.

These municipal networks run along roads suitable for cyclists or on dedicated cycle paths and are often signposted with green and white cycle route signs.

In contrast to the thematic routes, no additional names and logos are used for the routes, only names of cities and municipalities are used in the signposting.

In the cycle route planner, local routes form the lowest network level and are shown on the map with a thinner and slightly lighter blue signature.

Cycle paths

Signage according to road traffic regulations (StVO)

In accordance with the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO), compulsory cycle paths are marked with blue cycle path signs as “cycle path”, “shared pedestrian and cycle path” or “separate pedestrian and cycle path” (see graphics).
These cycle paths can be identified in the base map of the cycle route planner by the blue dashed lines. If the route is the same, they are overlaid by the above-mentioned signatures from the “cycle network” network layer.
For the routing options “Direct route” and “Asphalt/concrete”, compulsory cycle paths are given priority in routing.
