4 ALTERNATIVE ROUTES

Leisure to everyday traffic

Which routing option should I choose for what?

Route alternatives for different requirements

The cycle route planner offers appropriate routes for different requirements. After entering the start, destination and possibly other waypoints, four route alternatives are calculated: be it for the holiday trip on the “Bayernnetz für Radler”, for the day trip on (local) thematic routes or a connection that is as direct as possible on paved or unpaved ways.

Bicycle network

Network of approx. 54,000 km in Bavaria

Target group: Leisure cyclists (day trips)

Here, the entire cycle network shown in the bicycle route planner (Bayernnetz für Radler , thematic routes and local networks ) is included in the route search.

The routing uses a network with a total length of around 54,000 km throughout Bavaria. Orientation on site is usually made easier by the green and white bicycle signage (with and without thematic cycle route stickers). Older bicycle signage may still exist on some stretches. This will gradually be converted to the new standard.

Bayernnetz für Radler (BfR)

9,000 km total distance

Target group: Leisure and holiday cyclists (day/multi-day tours)

This routing option largely takes you through the ‘Bayernnetz für Radler’, which has a total length of around 9,000 km. It consists of a selection of thematic cycle routes (long-distance cycle routes and regional themed cycle routes) that together form a uniform network across the whole of Bavaria, independent of tourist conurbations.

The BfR routes offer:

  1. consistent logo marking
  2. signposting of the thematic routes
  3. safe routing on roads with little traffic, agricultural roads and independent cycle paths

Direct Route

Short connections, paved paths

Target group: Everyday cyclist

Direct routes use the shortest possible connections on designated cycle paths and on roads with low maximum permitted speeds for motor vehicles (e.g. 30 km/h zones) with and without bicycle signposting. Paved roads (e.g. asphalt, concrete, cobblestones) are preferred in the calculation process.

Sections to be avoided:

  1. with poor surface (e.g. natural soil)
  2. with high traffic volumes
  3. with high maximum permissible speeds for motor vehicles

Asphalt and Concrete

Only paved paths and roads

Target group: Cyclists with narrow tires or a lot of luggage;
Tours in bad weather

With this option, in contrast to the direct route, only paved paths and roads (asphalt, concrete or cobblestones) are taken into account in the routing. Only for very short sections of the route may this be deviated from in order to enable a continuous route.
